A women's division at King of the Air

The big-air contest in Cape Town gets its first women's division; Francesca Maini wins it.

For more than a decade after its return in 2013, the King of the Air in Cape Town had one division. Women had once had their own Red Bull title, the Queen of the Air on Maui, which Susi Mai won three times between 2003 and 2005.

In 2024 Red Bull announced a women’s division. Six women competed, next to eighteen riders in the open division. The final day was Sunday 8 December 2024, with the wind peaking at 40 knots.

Francesca Maini of Great Britain won, ahead of Zara Hoogenraad and Pippa van Iersel of the Netherlands. She was the first female winner of the event in its Cape Town era. In the open division Andrea Principi won, ahead of Lorenzo Casati and Luca Ceruti.

The women’s division stayed. In 2025 it was won by Nathalie Lambrecht, and Lorenzo Casati took the open title.
