Four years after its Olympic debut on the Windglider, windsurfing changed boards. At the 1988 Games of Seoul the windsurfers raced from 20 to 27 September at the Busan Yachting Center, in the south-east of South Korea.
Their board was the Division II, designed by George Lechner: 3.9 metres long, with a round bottom and a 6.5 square metre sail. Some sources give its sail as 6.7 square metres.
Bruce Kendall of New Zealand won gold. Jan Boersma won silver for the Netherlands Antilles, the only Olympic medal the country ever won before it was dissolved in 2010. Mike Gebhardt of the United States took bronze.
