Albeau holds the nautical mile at 44.12 knots

At La Palme, Antoine Albeau sets a ratified windsurfing record over a nautical mile, a distance that tests endurance as much as speed.

The 500-metre record rewards a single perfect run. A nautical mile, 1,852 metres, asks a windsurfer to hold top speed almost four times as long. Off the beach at La Palme, on the Mediterranean coast of France, the record over that distance became a contest of its own.

On 30 June 2023 Antoine Albeau sailed a nautical mile at 44.12 knots, beating his own mark set two weeks earlier. The World Sailing Speed Record Council ratified the record in October 2023.

It stood for three years. On 29 June 2026, at La Palme again, Cédric Bordes of France became the first to beat it, with 44.42 knots, and Albeau answered soon after with 44.97. The same week Jenna Gibson of Great Britain became the first woman over 40 knots over the distance. In July 2026 these new marks were still awaiting ratification.
