Wing racing for the World Beach Games

Wingfoil racing replaces kiteboarding at the planned World Beach Games in Bali; the games are cancelled a month before they start.

The World Beach Games are a multi-sport event run by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC). For the 2023 edition in Bali, sailing was to be held on kiteboards.

On 8 October 2022 ANOC, the Indonesian Olympic committee and World Sailing announced a change: after a review of the venue and the weather at a technical delegates’ meeting in Bali, the kiteboard event became a wingfoil event. It would be a racing event for 40 athletes, 20 men and 20 women.

The games were planned for 5 to 12 August 2023. About a month before, they were cancelled, after Indonesia’s Olympic committee withdrew when government funding was not released.

No wing race was sailed in Bali. But the wing had been chosen as the sailing event of a games run by the national Olympic committees.
