The first big-air wing champions

At Pozo Izquierdo on Gran Canaria the GWA crowns its first big-air world champions, Julien Rattotti and Mar de Arce Sánchez.

In kiting, big air had become a discipline of its own at the King of the Air. In 2023 the wing followed.

From 11 to 16 July 2023 the GWA Wingfoil World Cup at Pozo Izquierdo on Gran Canaria included the first GWA Wingfoil Big Air World Championships.

Julien Rattotti won the men’s title with a jump of 11.2 metres that was scored 9.47, ahead of Benjamin May. In the women’s event Mar de Arce Sánchez won in her very first competition, with a heat score of 13.35; Nia Suardiaz was second.

Big air became one of the wing disciplines with a GWA world title, next to surf-freestyle, wave and slalom. A year later Suardiaz would win it.
