From Athens to Crete by wing

Dimitris Apalagakis wings from near Athens to Crete in one day, setting a Guinness record of 259 km in 12 hours on the way.

On 9 August 2023 Dimitris Apalagakis set off from Lavrio, near Athens, and headed south across the Aegean Sea towards Crete, carried by the Meltemi wind.

He rode a wing and a foil board all the way. Guinness World Records recognised the distance he covered in the first twelve hours, 259 kilometres, as the greatest distance by hydrofoil wingboard in 12 hours.

The full crossing was longer: the rider’s own figure is 299.03 kilometres, in about thirteen and a half hours. The time is given as 13 hours 24 minutes or 13 hours 29 minutes, both in the same report.
